Glad to hear you like Horchata, but I have to say it's the first time I heard anyone call it a Mexican drink originally from Spain, is like saying Tequila is a Spanish drink originally from Mexico.

Since you seem to be a big fan of Horchata I hope this helps:

There is only one type of Horchata, and it is always made from chufa - if it's not from chufa then is not Horchata :)

I know of all of this because I am from Valencia, Spain where Horchata originates and it's drinked in every cafe.

In Valencia and surrounding cities it a very refreshing drink but once you go a bit further to other Spanish cities, although well known it is not easy to find, Horchata is a regional drink of Valencia, Castellon and Alicante. So I am not surprised that you struggle to find it.

I have to say (and sorry that this email sounds negative) that one should never drink bottled horchata, is a sin :) .... Bottle horchata is like drinking wine packed in a cardbox

I uderstand the reason why Garcia sells Horchata in those bottles (I live in London) as it takes longer for it to expire and it is easy to import, but I was disapointed when they served that as I was expecting fresh horchata not pasteurized.

If you are ever in Valencia and want to taste a fresh Horchata then please go to Horchateria El Siglo ... this place has been serving Horchatas for the last 200 years :)

Sorry for the moan
